HDC Grade 8 reinforces students’ understanding of the universal, intrinsic, and inalienable nature of human dignity. This grade focuses on the reality of the path to excellence through virtues like persistence and patience. Lessons highlight reading materials introducing students to young heroes who actively opposed the Nazi regime, and unlikely heroes like Louis Zamperini, who built a life of excellence despite his troubled childhood. Students are also given the chance to lead by building project proposals that model the power to create in order to solve current problems in solidarity. Furthermore, accountability in relationships is taught by engaging students to establish friendships that build good habits. HDC Grade 8 culminates with a class newspaper that helps integrate students’ overall learnings from the course.
