HDC Grade 1 begins with establishing the definition of human dignity. Aside from distinguishing living beings from non-living beings, Grade 1 also explores the five main senses in depth through interactive exercises. Students then explore the three internal senses (memory, imagination, and instinct) that will help distinguish animals and humans from plants. These pre-empt a discussion on the power of emotions to be complimented by the power to think and choose in a way that respects their and others’ human dignity. The course also encourages students to become like heroes through featuring stories of ordinary human beings who have done heroic acts. The path towards heroism is then paved through lessons on excellent choices regarding one’s body and self through friendships.
